Our Cardiac Surgery Unit is a 24-private bed unit that cares for pre and post-operative cardiac surgery patients, cardiac dysrhythmias requiring IV drips, vascular surgery patients and general medical overflow. Our Nurses work on a support team of educators, PCA/PCT's, Case Managers, Respiratory Therapists, Dieticians, PT/OT and Speech Therapists. You will earn credentials in ACLS and build strong clinical skills for our cardiac and vascular population.
Education: Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program; Consideration will be given for comparable education experience and successful licensure.
Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining and maintaining a current LPN license within the hiring state in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all State Board of Nursing requirements.
NOTE: one or more of the certifications below may be required based on the position/unit hired to, or acquisition of certification within department required timeframe: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization) S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, And Emotional Support) Six Assessment & Care Modules BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire. LPN-IV Certification must be previously completed or successful completion of course within 3 months of hire for LPNs in Missouri. Other unit-specific certifications as required.
Position requires the ability to push, pull, and/or lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
Position requires prolonged standing and walking during each shift.
Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
