Job summary

OVHC Ohio Valley Health Corporation in Columbus, OH is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct inpatient care in collaboration with the physician and nursing team. You will follow the patient’s plan of care and consult with the RN or Respiratory Therapist as needed.

The role requires 1 year of clinical experience, BLS certification within 30 days, and ability to work nights with flexible hours. This is a 40-hour weekly position with non-exempt status in a hospital-based setting.

Qualifications

  • Current LPN license in the state of practice.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire date.
  • Background check and federal clearance as required.
  • One year of clinical nursing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care per the plan of care and guidance from supervising staff.
  • Perform designated nursing procedures as needed.
  • Observe and report patient status and changes to the team promptly.
  • Assist physicians and supervisors with examinations and procedures.
  • Contribute to nursing assessments by collecting data and reporting findings.
  • Document patient conditions and responses to care accurately.
  • Support development of the patient’s care plan with data and priorities.
  • Educate patients and families per teaching plans.
  • Document interventions and outcomes in the health record.
  • Administer medications via IM, SC, IV, oral, nebulized, or MDI routes.
  • Seek instruction from supervising roles when implementing techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
  • 1. Current Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Licensed Practical Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • 2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
  • 3. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE
  • 1. One (1) year clinical experience.

  • 2. Performs designated therapeutic procedures to assigned patients as needed.
  • 3. Accurately observes, records and reports to the overseeing role, all patient concerns, symptoms, reactions and progress in a timely manner.
  • 4. Assists physicians and the overseeing role with examinations and procedures, as assigned.
  • 5. Contributes to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting and recording objective and subjective data.
  • 6. Observes the condition or change in condition of the patient, records signs and symptoms of deviation from normal health status and reports findings to the overseeing role.
  • 7. Participates in the development of the patient’s plan of care by providing data, contributing to the identification of priorities and assisting in the identification of measures to maintain comfort and support human functions and responses.
  • 8. Assists in assigned patient and family education and rehabilitation by reviewing patient needs with the overseeing role and following the teaching plan.
  • 9. Documents nursing interventions and responses to care, communicating to appropriate members of the health care team.
  • 10. Accurately and safely administers intramuscular, subcutaneous, IV, oral, nebulization and/or MDI delivered medications as assigned.
  • 11. Obtains instruction and supervision as necessary from the overseeing role when implementing nursing technique or practices.

  • 1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.

  • 3. Must be skilled with computer systems used by both physician offices and hospitals to capture data accurately and consistently.
  • 4. Ability to function as a team member in respect to organization, communication, and task prioritization. Must also be able to work weekends, holidays and all shifts.
