Job description

Defines the purpose of the position as well as the main duties and responsibilities. This should be the main part of the job description and fully describe the objectives of the role.

POSITION PURPOSE/SUMMARY STATEMENT INCLUDES, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

Maintains safe and secure environment for customers and employees by supervising, patrolling, and monitoring premises and personnel. Assists with leading, training, and coaching the loss prevention team. Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities such as property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons or unusual occurrences. Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities. Develop and maintain productive, effective, and professional relationships with peers, superiors, auditors, and others. Always represent the company in a positive and supportive manner.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (position titles directly reporting to this position):

• Loss Prevention and Safety Supervisors assigned to US6 and US8.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

• Develop and maintain productive, effective, and professional relationships with peers, superiors, and others. Always represent the company in a positive and supportive manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Supervise, lead, and assign job responsibilities to all loss prevention department and safety personnel as directed by the department manager.
• Supports the manager with growth and development of the team.
• Serves as the department’s senior representative in the absence of the manager.
• Ensure all loss prevention team members arrive on time, take scheduled breaks or lunches as required and stay within the scheduled time frames.
• A department supervisor is responsible for productivity tasks and to keep a steady workflow within the loss prevention department.
• Assists in identifying associates that perform below the set goals and support with retraining. May assist with coaching the loss prevention associate.
• Ensure training of team members on proper procedures, protocols, and best practices as directed by the department supervisor.
• Ensure the security of all Distribution Center premises and personnel by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points. Support with building, and premises walk-throughs.
• May assign tasks and supervise the work activities of subordinates.
• Supports the Safety Department with New Hire Orientation and Building Tours as needed.
• May support, prepare and distribute work schedules for the loss prevention and Safety Teams.
• Engages with all loss prevention team members, security personnel, operations leadership team and demonstrates a positive experience towards all personnel.
• Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other people to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
• Serves and supports as a liaison for emergency personnel including, but not limited to police, fire, hazard, poison control, among other local, state, and federal agencies.
• Respond to alarm company off‑hour calls and may cover additional work schedule shifts as needed.

SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum of 4-year security experience required.
• Knowledge of security procedures for a distribution center environment or equivalent.
• Able to work in a warehouse environment, able to work in different weather elements.
• Able to sit/lift/bend/walk repeatedly.
• Ability to work effectively under fast‑paced conditions.
• Exercise diplomacy when dealing with people in sensitive situations.
• Apply active listening techniques to obtain complete and accurate information.
• Apply the principles of supervision to direct the work activities of subordinates.
• Rapidly prioritize a variety of tasks and take appropriate action.
• Ability to apply first responder techniques in performing emergency first aid and CPR.
• May be required to work irregular hours, holidays, weekends, and overtime.
• May be required to walk or stand for extended periods of time.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Able to pass a drug screen and background check.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required qualifications needed to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

Education/Certifications: High School diploma or GED

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

• 1-2 years related experience.
• Proficiency in Excel Software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite; specifically, outlook.
• Able to verbally communicate orally and in written format.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to interact with other departments.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
• Ability to decipher and analyze complex data and information.
• Ability to communicate in English.
• Good math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

In general, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, bend, crouch, talk, hear, and smell. The employee frequently requires walking, standing, bending, pulling, pushing, and occasionally squatting, kneeling, and climbing. The employee must regularly lift, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The job may involve moderate standing, walking, bending, and frequent lifting. Occasional heavy lifting, bending, and climbing may also occur. The work environment is moderate noise level with seasonal volume changes. The job may require working in outdoor weather conditions and near moving equipment and mechanical parts, with occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Work activities are subject to significant volume change due to the business’s seasonal nature.
