Job description

The Lower School STEM teacher is responsible for developing and implementing a dynamic, hands-on curriculum that teaches foundational keyboarding skills and introduces students to the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This role requires a passionate educator who can inspire young learners, foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and integrate a Christian worldview into all aspects of the curriculum. The ideal candidate will be a creative, patient, and innovative teacher who is comfortable with technology and dedicated to nurturing students' intellectual and spiritual growth.

Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Design and Delivery:
  • Develop and teach engaging, age-appropriate lessons in keyboarding, focusing on proper technique, speed, and accuracy.
  • Design and deliver an integrated STEM curriculum that includes hands-on projects, experiments, and inquiry-based learning.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods and technologies to meet the diverse learning needs of elementary students.
  • Integrate a biblical worldview and Christian principles into all lessons, helping students see the wonder of God's creation through creativity, science, and technology.
Classroom Management and Environment:
  • Create a positive, safe, and collaborative learning environment in the computer lab and/or STEM classroom.
  • Establish and maintain clear classroom rules and expectations that create a dynamic, safe, and engaging learning environment.
  • Manage and maintain all classroom technology and materials, including computers, software, and STEM equipment.
Professional and Spiritual Growth:
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in keyboarding, STEM education, and educational technology.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for students, demonstrating a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Engage in prayer and spiritual reflection to guide your teaching and interactions with students and colleagues.
  • Participate in school-wide events, chapel services, and faculty meetings.
Requirements
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Certified teacher preferred.
  • Proven experience teaching elementary-aged students.
  • Strong knowledge of and passion for keyboarding and STEM concepts (e.g., coding, robotics, engineering design).
  • Familiarity with various educational software and technology.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • A strong, personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a life that aligns with the school's Statement of Faith.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and be a positive, supportive member of the school community.
