Job summary

Mears Group, Inc. is hiring a Low Voltage Installation Technician in Colorado. You will install, service, and maintain access control, video management, electrified locking hardware, A/V, and related low voltage systems on new construction and retrofit sites.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of construction experience.
  • High School Diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License; reliable transportation and insurance required.
  • Proficient with basic computer software (email, Word, Excel).
  • Willingness to obtain certifications (OSHA10, CTS, CEDIA, BICSI, CPR/First Aid, manufacturer certifications).
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Must provide personal low voltage tools (snips, strippers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.).
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently or under supervision.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow processes, checklists, and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.
  • Install access control systems, video management, electrified locking hardware, and A/V systems.
  • Perform cabling installation and termination (CAT5e/6/6A, coax, fiber) and test per standards.
  • Build organized equipment panels, racks, patch panels, and network electronics.
  • Assist with commissioning, system testing, and as-built documentation.
  • Travel to job sites throughout Colorado; occasional out-of-state travel may be required.
  • Work overtime, second or third shift, or irregular hours as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

TECHNICIAN

The Low Voltage Installation Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, and maintaining access control, video management, electrified locking hardware, structured cabling, audio/video systems, and related low voltage technologies. Technicians will work on new construction and retrofit environments, performing work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and confined spaces as required. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. This position reports to a Project Manager and may be supervised daily by a Foreman.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Follow all Mears safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.
  • Install:
    • Access control systems
    • Video management systems
    • Electrified locking hardware
    • Audio/visual systems
    • Related field devices and system components
  • Perform cabling installation and termination (CAT5e, CAT6/6A, coax, fiber); test and document cabling per BICSI, NEC, and local standards.
  • Build organized and properly labeled equipment panels, MDF/IDF racks, patch panels, wire management, and network electronics.
  • Assist with commissioning, system testing, and documentation including accurate as-builts.
  • Use ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and tools to perform work in hard-to-reach or elevated locations.
  • Maintain clear communication with supervisors, colleagues, and customers.
  • Provide high-quality customer service and maintain a professional presence on job sites.
  • Travel to job sites throughout Colorado; occasional out-of-state travel may be required.

  • The physical activity and work environment required for this role includes:
    • Work inside and outdoors in varied weather conditions (hot, cold, wet).
    • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, crouch, and reach for extended periods.
    • Lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally heavier.
    • Use hand and power tools; maintain manual dexterity for fine tasks.
    • Work in elevated areas up to 50 ft (ladders, lifts, scaffolds, catwalks).
    • Work in confined spaces (manholes, tunnels, crawl spaces, attics).
    • Travel long distances to job sites as needed.
    • Good vision (corrected or uncorrected) and balance are required.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
