Job summary

Boston Music Project is seeking a Low Strings Teaching Artist (Cello/Double Bass) to join our string program at Sarah Roberts Elementary in Roslindale. The Teaching Artist will work alongside the Ensemble Director to support students in an elementary string orchestra setting, with a focus on cello and double bass students.

Qualifications

• Strong background in cello and/or double bass performance and pedagogy.
• Experience teaching children, preferably in group or ensemble settings.
• Strong understanding of beginning and intermediate string pedagogy.

Responsibilities

• Support the Ensemble Director during rehearsals and provide individualized instruction.
• Lead low strings sectionals and small-group instruction.
• Provide technical support to students as needed.
• Model playing technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills.
• Assist with tuning, instrument setup, and care.
• Help students develop note reading, rhythm, posture, bow technique, and ensemble playing.
• Support classroom management and maintain a positive rehearsal environment.
• Play alongside students when appropriate.
• Collaborate with the Ensemble Director to meet musical and developmental needs.
• Assist with concert preparation and performances during the school year.
