Job Description

The Quincy Public Schools String Program provides beginning string instruction to elementary students and serves as a pathway into the district’s middle and high school orchestra programs. We are seeking enthusiastic and skilled string educators to join our growing after-school program.

Responsibilities Include:

• Teach beginning violin, viola, and/or cello group lessons to students in grades 2–5.
• Classes meet once per week and are 40 minutes in length.
• Teach and reinforce strong fundamental string-playing skills
• Adapt instruction to meet the needs of students with varying skill levels and learning styles.
• Maintain a positive, engaging, and well-managed classroom environment.
• Collaborate with fellow string teachers to support program-wide goals and student success
• Provide weekly email updates to parents regarding lesson content, student progress, upcoming events, and program announcements.
• Set and maintain high expectations for student behavior and musical growth.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrate excellent musicianship and artistry as a performer and educator.
• Have a strong understanding of violin, viola, and/or cello pedagogy.
• Be passionate about public music education and teaching young musicians.
• Work effectively with elementary and middle school students.
• Communicate professionally and collaboratively with students, families, and colleagues.
• Have experience working with students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Music Performance, Music Education, String Pedagogy, or a related field.
• Have at least two years of teaching experience (preferred).
• Chinese language proficiency is helpful, but not required.

Program Hours:

• 3:00 PM–5:10 PM

Teaching Commitment:

• Approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes per assigned day per week.

Program Dates:

• October 2026 through June 2027 (excluding school vacations and holidays)

Teachers may teach at one or more of the following locations:

• Monday – Quincy High School
• Tuesday – Parker Elementary School
• Wednesday – North Quincy High School
• Thursday – Squantum Elementary School
• Friday – Beechwood Knoll Elementary School

Compensation:

• $46.42 per 60-minute teaching block
• Each teaching block consists of a 40-minute lesson and 20 minutes of compensated preparation and instructional support time.
• Three teaching blocks are scheduled per day.
• Total compensation: $139.26 per assigned day.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful candidates must complete CORI and fingerprinting requirements prior to employment.

Commitment:

• The program runs from October through June, and teachers are expected to commit to the full school year
