Job summary

Iowa State University’s Department of Music and Theatre in Ames seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor of Music in low strings (cello and double bass) starting August 16, 2027. The role includes teaching applied cello and double bass lessons and the low strings techniques class, and performing with the Ames Piano Quartet.

This is a 7/8 FTE, 9-month term faculty position with an initial 3-year term. Duties may expand to additional courses based on qualifications, with a competitive salary and

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Music or related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience performing chamber music.
• Demonstrated experience teaching low strings.
• Preferred: Master’s degree or higher in cello performance or cello pedagogy.
• Experience recruiting and teaching other areas of music.

Responsibilities

• Teach cello and double bass applied lessons.
• Teach the low strings portion of the music education string techniques course.
• Perform cello in the Ames Piano Quartet.
• Teach additional courses as assigned based on qualifications and expertise.
