Job summary

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries in Cincinnati is seeking a Loss Prevention Specialist to support the Loss Prevention program across stores, facilities and operations. Responsibilities

• Camera, Security Technology & Systems: monitor cameras, identify outages, support AI-enabled tech, document installations and issues.
• Store Risk Assessments & Audits: conduct audits, review exception reports, identify risks, document findings, follow up to resolution.

The Loss Prevention Specialist supports the organization's Loss Prevention program by identifying, assessing, and addressing risks that may result in theft, fraud, safety or security incidents, property loss, financial loss, or other business disruption.

This position serves as a hands-on resource across the organization's stores, facilities, and operations, with primary responsibility for routine loss prevention activities including camera and security technology, store risk assessments, exception and risk analysis, incident response, and investigations. The Specialist works closely with the Loss Prevention Manager and business partners to identify emerging risks, implement corrective actions, and strengthen practices that protect employees, customers, organizational assets, and the communities the organization serves.

1. Camera, Security Technology & Systems

• Monitor camera functionality and identify outages, blind spots, positioning concerns, or other technology issues that may create security or loss prevention risks.
• Support implementation and ongoing monitoring of AI-enabled camera technology and other loss prevention technology.
• Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness, coverage, and reliability of security systems and make recommendations to the Loss Prevention Manager.
• Maintain appropriate documentation regarding camera locations, equipment issues, installations, repairs, and other technology-related activities.
• Support longer-term technology replacement and modernization initiatives as directed by the Loss Prevention Manager.

2. Store Risk Assessments & Audits

• Conduct regular in-person store, facility, and operational site audits to identify loss prevention, safety, security, and process risks.
• Conduct remote reviews and follow-up assessments as appropriate.
• Evaluate adherence to established loss prevention, security, safety, and operational practices.
• Document audit findings, identify areas requiring corrective action, and monitor follow-up through completion.
• Review available exception reports and other operational information to identify potential loss, theft, fraud, process breakdowns, or other risk.
• Identify unusual activity, trends, anomalies, or recurring issues that may warrant additional review or investigation.
• Conduct appropriate follow-up based on identified exceptions and risk indicators.
• Escalate significant, recurring, or complex issues to the Loss Prevention Manager.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of findings, actions, and outcomes.

4. Investigations & Incident Response

• Conduct routine investigations involving suspected theft, fraud, policy violations, property loss, employee or customer incidents, and other matters assigned by the Loss Prevention Manager.
• Gather and preserve relevant information, including video, records, statements, photographs, and other documentation.
• Prepare clear, objective, and timely investigative documentation.
• Coordinate with Human Resources, Safety, Retail Management, Operations, and other business partners as appropriate.
• Escalate investigations involving significant financial loss, serious employee relations concerns, violence or threats of violence, sensitive allegations, legal or regulatory concerns, senior leaders, or other high-profile or complex circumstances.
