Job summary

University Bank seeks a Loss Mitigation Specialist to reduce foreclosure risk by counseling delinquent borrowers and evaluating sustainable retention or liquidation options. You will review financials, ensure compliance with investor/insurer guidelines, and coordinate with internal teams to implement workout strategies.

The role requires strong communication, attention to detail, and experience with mortgage servicing platforms and CFPB rules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in mortgage loss mitigation and related default servicing.
• Knowledge of investor and insurer loss mitigation guidelines (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA/HUD, VA, USDA, FHLB and private investors) preferred.
• Certification in credit counseling, collections, or mortgage servicing is a plus but not required.
• Strong understanding of foreclosure prevention options and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Review borrower financial packages for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with required documentation standards prior to underwriting evaluation.
• Process, evaluate, and monitor all workout options per guidelines to ensure timelines and eligibility.
• Ensure compliance with CFPB rules under Regulation X and Z throughout underwriting decisions.
• Monitor and respond to departmental email queues, ensuring timely communication.
• Communicate with borrowers, credit unions, insurers, attorneys, and investors to develop sustainable workout strategies.
• Report approved workout solutions to investors and designated systems with accuracy.
• Provide counseling and guidance to delinquent borrowers and participate in mitigation calls.
• Collaborate with foreclosure, bankruptcy, customer service, and payment processing to update systems accurately.
• Coordinate with State Housing Programs and Hardest Hit Fund for submissions and tracking.
• Maintain accurate servicing system records in ICE MSP and LoanSphere with proper codes and updates.
• Ensure data in investor/insurer systems (FHA Connection, SMDU, Resolve, LINC, Valeri, eMAQCS) is current.
• Ensure accurate payment posting and suspense management for workouts.
• Manage departmental email inboxes with prompt responses.
• Provide backup support during high volume periods to meet SLAs.
