Job summary

Blackstone Valley Prep is seeking a Long Term Substitute Elementary Teacher for an immediate opening at our Cumberland, RI campus. A bachelor’s degree and Rhode Island teaching certification by hire date are required; reciprocity with many states is noted.

Experience in diverse public schools is preferred. The role entails creating inclusive classrooms, differentiating instruction, and upholding district policies.

Salary Range: $49,354.00 To $86,621.00 Annually

Blackstone Valley Prep operates as a network of schools. Staff members may be assigned or reassigned to different BVP campuses, grade levels, or programs as needed to best support scholars and organizational needs. Placement decisions will consider individual strengths and certifications.

In addition, Elementary Teachers are expected to:

Create an environment of respect and rapport

Collaborate with co-teachers to provide differentiated instruction to scholars based on scholar need

Establish a culture of learning that reflects the educational importance of the work undertaken by both scholars and teachers

Establish and monitor routines and procedures for the smooth operation of the classroom, the efficient use of time and the engagement with learning

Model a precise and expressive use of language to effectively communicate with scholars, including: expectations for learning, directions for activities, and explanations of content

Use questions, prompts, and discussion techniques to cognitively challenge scholars, advance high-level thinking and discourse, and promote metacognition

Intellectually engage all scholars in learning through well-designed learning tasks and activities that require complex thinking, and include appropriate scaffolding

Utilize formative and summative assessments to drive instructional planning, monitor scholar learning, provide feedback to scholars, and facilitate scholars’ self-monitoring of learning

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree is required

Successful applicants must hold and provide evidence of an appropriate Rhode Island teacher certification by their date of hire. Rhode Island offers reciprocity with over 30 states across the country.

A minimum of two years teaching experience in a diverse public school setting preferred, but not required

Bilingual candidates preferred, but not required

Compensation Range:

Teacher STEP Scale* New-hire salary placement is capped at Step 10.
