Position Description: Speech and Language Therapist

Position Goal: The Speech and Language Therapist is responsible for screening, assessing, diagnosing, and treating disorders related to speech, language, communication, swallowing, and voice.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current Massachusetts DESE license as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Understanding of the Individual Education Program (IEP) process
  • Ability to work as part of an educational team

Reports to: School Principal and Administrator of Student Services

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct screenings for preschool/kindergarten students and other students as needed.
  • Complete standard assessments for children referred for a speech and language evaluation. The therapist will also complete three-year evaluations as required by a student’s IEP.
  • Complete formal written evaluations and share such results at a student’s team meeting. If a student is found to have a speech and language disorder, the therapist shall recommend ways to best meet the student's needs, including setting goals.
  • Work directly with students, individually or in groups, on students’ individual speech and language goals and objectives.
  • Maintain data on student progress and complete progress notes each quarter of the school year.
  • Work with all team members, including classroom teachers and other therapists, and provide consultation services as required.
  • Complete professional development activities to seek knowledge on current best practices.
  • Maintain students’ FM systems as needed.
