POSITION SUMMARY

The Logistics & Transportation Manager owns the end-to-end logistics and transportation function at OM Produce — from inbound freight and outbound delivery to daily route execution, fleet management, driver supervision, and DOT/FMCSA compliance. This role combines strategic oversight of the supply chain with hands‑on, front‑line leadership of the driver team, ensuring products move efficiently and safely from suppliers to the warehouse and from the warehouse to customers, on time, at the right cost, and in the best possible condition.

The Logistics & Transportation Manager partners closely with Purchasing, Warehouse, Sales, and Customer Service to align supply chain execution with business priorities, while also serving as the first point of escalation for drivers and daily transportation issues. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with deep experience in food distribution or perishable supply chains, strong command of DOT/FMCSA compliance, and the ability to lead people directly while also driving continuous improvement across a fast‑paced, high‑volume operation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Route Operations & Dispatch

• Plan, coordinate, and optimize daily delivery routes to maximize efficiency, reduce mileage, and ensure on‑time delivery to all customers
• Support daily dispatch coordination and driver assignments, and monitor active routes in real time to proactively address delays, breakdowns, or service issues
• Ensure adequate driver coverage across all shifts and coordinate with warehouse and dispatch teams to ensure on‑time departures
• Assist with yard checks, trailer positioning, and equipment readiness
• Evaluate route performance and implement improvements to reduce costs per delivery and increase service levels
• Coordinate customer delivery windows, special delivery instructions, and route changes with the Sales and Customer Service teams
• Manage inbound freight scheduling in coordination with the Purchasing team to ensure timely and accurate product arrivals
• Negotiate rates, terms, and service agreements with carriers, brokers, and third‑party logistics providers
• Monitor carrier performance including on‑time pickup and delivery, damage rates, and responsiveness
• Resolve freight claims, disputes, and service failures with carriers in a timely manner
• Identify and qualify new carriers to ensure supply chain flexibility and cost competitiveness
• Serve as the first point of contact for drivers during shifts and reinforce attendance, punctuality, and route expectations
• Conduct ride‑along, observations, and coaching, and lead onboarding, training, and shadowing of new drivers
• Lead and develop the broader logistics and transportation team, including dispatchers, logistics coordinators, and support staff
• Set clear performance expectations, provide ongoing coaching, and conduct regular performance reviews for direct reports
• Address performance or behavioral issues directly and manage corrective action documentation as needed
• Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the team
• Partner with HR on hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning for logistics and transportation roles

Fleet Management & DOT/FMCSA Compliance

• Own full compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations including ELD monitoring, Hours of Service, DVIR review, and driver qualification files
• Monitor pre‑trip/post‑trip inspections during daily operations and ensure defects are reported and resolved
• Verify ELD usage, log accuracy, and Hours of Service compliance during shifts, and report violations, near misses, accidents, or unsafe behaviors immediately
• Lead accident response and investigations, and maintain up‑to‑date driver records, vehicle registrations, and insurance documentation
• Oversee the company's fleet of vehicles including maintenance scheduling, inspections, and equipment readiness & break downs.
• Manage fuel card programs, vehicle expense tracking, and fleet cost reporting
• Evaluate fleet needs and make recommendations for vehicle additions, replacements, or upgrades

Cost Management, Reporting & Communication

• Monitor and manage the logistics and transportation budget including freight costs, fuel, maintenance, and third‑party carrier spend
• Track and report key KPIs including on‑time delivery rate, cost per mile, cost per delivery, and fill rate
• Maintain accurate shift logs, incident reports, and route notes, and communicate real‑time issues to the VP of Operations
• Prepare regular logistics and transportation performance summaries and present findings to leadership
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities across inbound and outbound logistics without compromising service quality

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Purchasing to align inbound freight schedules with inventory needs and product availability
• Collaborate with Warehouse Operations to ensure trucks are loaded, staged, and dispatched on schedule
• Work with Sales and Customer Service to communicate delivery updates, resolve service issues, and manage customer expectations
• Support new customer onboarding by evaluating route feasibility and service capacity for new accounts

Process Improvement & Technology

• Identify and implement process improvements across inbound and outbound logistics to increase efficiency, reduce errors, and lower costs
• Leverage routing software, TMS platforms, ELD systems (e.g., Samsara), and ERP tools (SAP Business One) to optimize operations
• Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for all logistics and transportation functions
• Stay current on industry trends, regulatory changes, and technology innovations in logistics and transportation

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred
• 5–8 years of progressive logistics or transportation experience, including at least 2–3 years directly supervising or leading drivers in a CDL environment
• Deep experience in food distribution, fresh produce, perishables, or a related high‑volume logistics environment required
• Strong working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, fleet management, and carrier operations
• Experience with routing software, TMS platforms, ELD systems, and ERP systems (SAP Business One preferred)
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a data‑driven approach to decision‑making
• Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict‑resolution skills for managing drivers, carriers, vendors, and internal stakeholders
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast‑paced, time‑sensitive environment
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and motivate a logistics and transportation team
• High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in scheduling, documentation, and compliance
• Valid CDL (Class A or B) or prior CDL driving experience preferred
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
• Strong computer Skills & excel basic knowledge required
• On‑site role based in Irving, Texas with regular presence in office, warehouse, and yard settings
• Frequent interaction with drivers and equipment, including participation in ride‑along and yard checks
• Flexible availability required, including early morning, weekend, and on‑call support as business needs demand
