Job summary

Wayfair in Wilmette, IL is seeking a Logistics Specialist to keep our Physical Retail operations running smoothly. You will manage inventory flow, conduct audits, process shipments, and resolve discrepancies to support a seamless customer experience.

Key responsibilities include daily inventory audits, cycle-counting, using scanning and WMS/OMS tools, handling receipts, and collaborating with logistics teams to drive efficiency during peak periods.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates reliability and punctuality for every shift and communicates proactively about issues.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy with daily audits, cycle counts, and scanning to track items by condition, quantity, and location.
  • Manage inventory performance by monitoring aging stock, processing markdowns, and handling returns for recalls or overstock.
  • Receive and process shipments, unloading and recording overages and damages accurately.
  • Proactively monitor systems using order-management and warehouse-management software to track flow and resolve discrepancies.
  • Audit operations with regular inbound/outbound shipment checks to ensure accurate processing.
  • Support operational excellence by using ticketing systems to manage exceptions and propose process improvements.
  • Collaborate with logistics leaders and other departments to streamline operations and maintain high standards.
  • Adapt and solve inventory challenges, coordinating between warehouse and store teams during peak periods.
  • Operate as one team by cross-training across store functions to flex when needed.

Job description

Salary Range: $20.00 per hour.

Note: The hourly rate is a fixed entry rate for this position and applies to all new hires. Future pay increases are determined by performance, growth, and time in this role, in accordance with our compensation policy.

Overview

As a Logistics Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in keeping Wayfair’s Physical Retail operations running smoothly as we redefine the customer shopping experience. Your work, from managing inventory flow and conducting audits to processing shipments and resolving discrepancies, directly supports an exceptional seamless experience for our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates reliability: be present and punctual for every shift and communicate proactively about unexpected events or issues.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy: conduct daily audits, maintain a robust cycle‑count program, and use scanning technology to track carton‑level details such as condition, quantity, and location.
  • Manage inventory performance: monitor aging inventory, process markdowns, execute damage write‑offs, and handle vendor returns for recalls, dead stock, and overstock.
  • Receive and process shipments: unload and receive inventory carefully, including manual handling of large and heavy items, and record overages, shortages, and damages accurately.
  • Proactively monitor systems: use order‑management and warehouse‑management software to track inventory flow, resolve discrepancies, and keep records current.
  • Audit operations: perform regular and trigger‑based audits on inbound and outbound shipments to ensure accurate processing and shipping.
  • Support operational excellence: use ticketing systems to manage exceptions, resolve issues and provide feedback on tools and processes to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate across teams: work closely with logistics leaders and other departments to streamline operations and maintain Wayfair’s high standards of operational excellence.
  • Adapt and problem‑solve: own inventory challenges, drive solutions and ensure smooth coordination between warehouse and retail teams in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Operate as one team: support store goals by cross‑training across key store functions, including sales and back‑of‑house operations, and flex where needed during peak periods.
Qualifications
  • Education: high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Inventory control experience: 1–3 years of inventory control experience, preferably in retail.
  • Distribution or logistics experience: 1+ year in distribution or logistics.
  • Open schedule availability: flexible to work nights, weekends and holidays as business needs require.
  • Customer service skills: strong communication, calm and professional under pressure.
  • Adaptability and problem‑solving: comfortable with evolving tools, systems and processes, and able to take initiative to maintain operational excellence.
  • Technical proficiency: strong skills with Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
  • Detail orientation: highly organized with proven ability to manage complex inventory workflows and systems.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking and reaching with hands and arms; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing and crawling.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling and crouching.
  • Lifting ability: lift and move up to 50 lbs independently on a regular basis; heavier items may require assistance or equipment.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Temperature flexibility: comfortable in environments with varying temperatures.
  • Noise tolerance: occasional exposure to moderate noise levels.
  • Safety awareness: minimal exposure to workplace or environmental hazards – must adhere to all safety protocols.
