Tyson Foods is seeking a Transportation Market Strategy Manager to lead the enterprise network's freight strategy, ensuring optimal pricing, carrier mix, and effective tendering. You will own the annual RFP and mini-bid process, monitor market conditions, and set targets to drive savings across modes.
The role requires collaboration with Procurement, Operations, and business units, plus evaluating new transportation technology to improve sourcing and management of freight.
This position is responsible for leading transportation market strategy for the enterprise network, ensuring Tyson buys and manages freight at the right price, with the right carriers, using the right tools. The Transportation Market Strategy Manager owns the annual RFP and mini-bid strategy, monitors freight market conditions and carrier capacity, develops the spot and contract rate strategy, and identifies, quantifies, and tracks savings initiatives across all modes. The primary functions and purpose of the position are to set the bid and award strategy that establishes Tyson's contract rate base; to provide the market intelligence and rate inputs that drive mode, carrier, and lane decisions across the network; and to evaluate and implement new transportation technology that improves how freight is sourced, tendered, and managed.
The manager will develop and execute the annual transportation RFP and recurring mini-bid strategy, including lane scoping, scenario design, award logic, and carrier allocation, and will shepherd awards through implementation with Procurement, Operations, and the business units. Position will monitor freight market conditions, including spot and contract rate trends, carrier capacity, fuel, and seasonality, and will translate that intelligence into a documented spot strategy, contract rate targets, and recommendations on carrier mix and mode selection. Provides the rate and cost inputs that drive mode, carrier, and origin decisions in network models, routing guides, and load-build rules, and maintains these inputs so that decisions reflect current market cost. Identifies, quantifies, frames up, and tracks savings initiatives across all modes; owns the savings calculation methodology and the reporting of identified versus realized savings to leadership. Serves as the group's subject matter expert on the transportation technology road map; evaluates new tools and vendors (sourcing, tendering, visibility, and rate management), builds the business case, and leads implementation with IT and the TMS vendor. Coordination with many groups including senior Leadership, Procurement, Operations, Finance, and Accounting to understand business impacts, gather requirements, and educate users on the implications of rate, carrier, and technology changes.
