Job summary

Overview

Come join the Smart Sand team! We are a fully integrated sand supply and services company, offering complete sand, logistics, storage, and management solutions with our in-basin trans-loading terminals and our smartsystem storage capabilities. We own and operate premium frac sand mines and related processing facilities in Wisconsin and Illinois, with access to three Class I rail lines to deliver products across the United States and Canada.

Position

Load Out Crew

Load Out Crew members are responsible for operating various equipment through computer controls to load rail cars with finished quality sand product for shipment. The position reports to the Logistics Supervisor and may take direction from other Smart Sand managers. This role is based primarily at our Blair, WI facility.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Locomotive Operator on hopper car spots and movement.
  • Assist with product transitions.
  • Inspect hopper cars for product loading.
  • Properly pull samples from each rail car and document for QA testing.
  • Inspect hopper cars after loading for possible contamination.
  • Maintain accurate loading records.
  • Connect loading equipment to the hopper car.
  • Inspect and ensure loading unit equipment is working properly.
  • Load hopper cars according to loading procedures, quality standards, and safe practices.
  • Check hopper cars after loading to ensure there is no leaking product.
  • Communicate with management on any problems that occur.
  • Secure loaded hopper cars.
  • Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
  • Couple and uncouple cars, operate switches, and perform minor repairs to railcars, including replacing heavy couplings or air brake hoses.
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety.
  • Wear all required protective clothing to transfer the product safely.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior rail, transload, or refinery experience preferred.
  • MSHA training and experience is a plus.

  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Good judgment is required.
  • Must be adaptable and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
