Steel Dynamics, Inc. is seeking a Dispatcher for the Long Products Division in the Kentucky-based Steel Ventures unit.

The role focuses on dispatching, scheduling, and receiving shipments, coordinating with truck and rail carriers, and communicating with internal teams and customers. The position requires learning systems and forecasting needs, strong problem-solving and organizational skills, plus solid customer service and computer literacy.

• Ability to learn systems, carriers and customers’ requirements.
• Ability to forecast vehicle needs.
• Ability to process multiple pieces of information quickly to arrive at best outcome.
• Continuous communication with all involved parties.
• High level of problem solving, prioritization, and organizational abilities.
• Strong computer knowledge and computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Build, schedule and dispatch outbound truck freight via approved and collect freight carriers
• Build, dispatch and coordinate scheduling of outbound rail freight
• Utilization of multiple computer programs directly and indirectly involved with truck and rail shipments
• Communicate effectively with carriers, sales, members of dispatch team, transportation, production departments, I.T. and customers
• Engage with railroad representatives as necessary
• Assist with calculating month end shipment forecast and supporting additional dispatch functions
• Assist with perspective carrier evaluations and soliciting new carriers
• All other duties as assigned
