Job summary

Sappi in Portland, ME seeks a Global Logistics Coordinator to coordinate international shipping with carriers, brokers, and customers, ensuring efficient movement of finished goods and cost improvements. Travel is expected.

You will monitor shipments from booking to delivery, resolve issues, and develop improvements while supporting sales and production teams with data and analyses. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Studies or equivalent job-related experience.
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills; familiar with logistics and production planning concepts (e.g., just-in-time, materials requirement planning).
• Must be a self-starter who can work independently with attention to detail to meet position requirements.
• Broad range of computer skills - database, spreadsheet, statistics applications, and logistics software packages and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Understand transportation contracts and tariffs.
• Ability to communicate findings, make recommendations, and facilitate change with all organizational levels.
• Project management skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates import and export logistics activities via ocean, air and truck with multiple carriers from pickup to delivery.
• Proactively monitor import and export shipments from booking through delivery by tracking, records, and problem resolution.
• Investigates problems, identifies root causes, and develops solutions.
• Assesses and improves current global logistics or transportation processes and coordinates changes.
• Provides analytical support for projects, new business opportunities, and proposals.
• Assembles data, analyzes performance, and develops recommendations supporting global logistics and supply chain operations.
• Ensures transport capacity for production facilities and distribution centers.
• Monitors carrier contracts and compliance with import/export regulations.
• Develops standard operating procedures and performance standards.
• Coordinates global logistics issues between providers and sales teams.
• Evaluates service providers and mill shipping performance against standards.
• Creates and publishes logistics performance reports.

Summary: The position requires coordination and close working relationships with international logistics serviceproviders, customs house brokers, customers as well as union employees within production facilities and distributioncenters. The overall objective of this position is to ensure the efficient and effective coordination of finished goods tocustomers and distribution centers while realizing cost savings and service improvements. Some travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates import and export logistics activities via ocean, air and truck with multiple carriers from point of pickup to point of delivery
• Proactively monitor import and export shipments from booking through delivery by tracking, maintaining records,and providing problem resolution as needed
• Investigates problems, finds root causes, and develops solutions
• Assesses the effectiveness of current global logistics and/or transportation processes, determines improvements,and coordinates institutionalized change
• Provides analytical support for projects, new business opportunities, and proposals
• Responsible for assembling data, analyzing performance, identifying problems, and developing recommendationswhich support the management of global logistics and supply chain operations
• Ensures transport capacity for production facilities and/or distribution centers
• Monitors contract compliance of carriers and other global logistics service providers- ensures compliance with import and export customs requirements and regulations
• Develops standard operating procedures and performance standards
• Coordination and communication of global logistics issues between logistics service providers, Inside Sales, and Outside Sales
• Evaluate global logistics service providers and mill shipping performance on a continual basis to ensure adherence to performance standards
• Create and publish reports on the performance of logistics

Minimum Education, Skills, And Knowledge Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Studies or equivalent job-related experience
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills; familiar with logistics and production planning concepts (e.g., just-in-time,materials requirement planning)
• Must be a self-starter who is able to work independently and possess the ability and desire to work effectively, withattention to detail, to meet the requirements of the position.
