Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health's St. Raphael Campus is seeking a Materials Handler to support patient care by stocking, distributing, and receiving supplies and equipment.

You will use handheld PC/PAR EX devices to inventory unit supply areas, put away orders, and maintain orderly supply spaces while serving as an advocate for unit needs. This role collaborates with the Patient Services Manager, Nursing, and Materials staff to ensure quality customer service and timely patient care.

Qualifications

  • High School Degree or Equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of Materials/Supply handling order experience.
  • Experience in a patient care unit or hospital setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Patient Services Managers and Material Management Staff.
  • Competency in operating handheld and desktop computer systems for supply ordering, replenishment and project work (e.g. Lawson).
  • Competency in Supply Management concepts (e.g. PAR level).

Responsibilities

  • Delivers and retrieves equipment, supplies, and other items to patient care areas in support of patient care continuity.
  • Completes dispatched work requests per Service Response Center guidance.
  • Maintains designated storage areas for equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures equipment is brought to and pulled from storage areas.
  • Works with maintenance to ensure broken equipment is repaired.
  • Identifies and tags unserviceable equipment.
  • Transports specimens to clinical laboratories and operates the tube system.
  • Uses department information systems to retrieve and monitor tasks.
  • Operates and monitors the Service Response Center systems (SRS II, IVR).
  • Performs other department duties as requested.
  • Fills isolation stations on patient care units if necessary.
  • Interacts with customers and colleagues in a courteous manner.
  • Receives linen and distributes throughout campus; transfers dirty linen between plant and trailers.
  • Operates electric tow tractors and scooters safely.
  • Assists in processing contaminated Central Supply items for decontamination.
  • Accepts supplies/packages/equipment for distribution to departments.
  • Performs duties as purchasing receiver.
  • Receives all goods delivered to hospital warehouse.
  • Issues warehouse supplies to departments.
  • Replenishes shelves for cart picking aisles.
  • Participates in annual inventory and cycle counts.

Performs a variety of supply related functions which support the organizations patient care efforts on the St. Raphael Campus. This includes but is not limited to using hand held PC/PAR EX devices to inventory unit supply areas, put away supply orders, maintain the supply areas in a neat and orderly fashion, identify and process emergency supply orders as needed, participate in teams to review and make changes to unit supply pars, perform all necessary receiving functions for unit supply deliveries, and general act as an advocate in all areas of medical supplies for units the employee is responsible for. Must work as part of a team that includes the patient service manager, nursing, and Materials representatives to include supply vendors, Customer Service Coordinators, vendors, and other materials staff in order to ensure quality customer service and meeting patient care needs as they relate to supplies .

Responsibilities
  • 1.Delivers and retrieves a variety of equipment (including but not limited to Beds, formulas, cardiac chairs, monitors, pumps), supplies, flowers, some food items, specimens, medical gases, and other items according to dispatcher or dispatch systems, to patient care areas in support of the SLA to ensure the continuity of patient care.
  • 1.1In response to shift leader direction of Service Response Center requests, completes dispatched work requests.
  • 2.Maintains designated storage areas for equipment and supplies.
  • 2.1Ensures equipment is brought to and pulled from designated storage areas.
  • 3.Works with maintenance to ensure broken equipment is repaired
  • 3.1Identifies and tags unserviceable pieces of equipment through the course of normal operations.
  • 4.Transports specimens from patient divisions to clinical laboratories and operates the tube system to ensure proper movement of patient specimens or information.
  • 4.1Through direction of SRC, or shift leader, picks up and delivers specimens to required locations (Labs).
  • 5.Utilizes department information systems to retrieve monitor and perform department's basic missions.
  • 5.1Is dispatched from, operates and otherwise monitors the Service Response Center system (SRS II, IVR, etc).
  • 6.Performs other dept. duties as requested.
  • 6.1If necessary fills isolation stations on patient care units.
  • 7.Customer Relations/Mutual Respect - Demonstrates outstanding of customer service and the Key Behaviors outlined in the Hospital's Core Success Factors in all interactions.
  • 7.1Interacts with all others in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner.
  • 8.Receives linen from linen plant and distributes throughout the campus. Transfer dirty linen from linen to transporting trailer to ensure timely turnaround on bulk linen deliveries.
  • 9.Operates electric tow tractors and scooters always ensuring safe operation
  • 10.Assists in the processing of contaminated Central Supply items to ensure proper decontamination.
  • 11.Accepts Supplies/packages/equipment for distribution to customer departments
  • 12.Performs duties as purchasing receiver
  • 13.Receives all goods delivered to the hospital warehouse from the receiving platform.
  • 14.Issues warehouse supplies in using departments.
  • 15.Replenishes shelves with supplies for cart picking aisles.
  • 16.Participates in annual fiscal year inventory and assists in inventory cycle counts.
Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School Degree or Equivalent

EXPERIENCE

One to two years of Materials/Supply handling order experience. Experience in a patient care unit or hospital setting preferred. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Patient Services Managers and Material Management Staff.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Demonstrated competency in operating handheld and desktop computer systems as needed for supply ordering , replenishment and project work. (i.e. Lawson). Demonstrated competency in Supply Management concept (eg. PAR level).

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Requires lifting of cases of supplies up to 50 lbs. Pushing heavy rack tracks loaded with supplies. Operating in confined supply room spaces, and working to OSHA standards.
