Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Logistics Associate to perform a wide range of duties across the campus in support of patient care. You will transport, deliver, and retrieve equipment, supplies, specimens, and related items to patient care areas in line with departmental service levels and SLA commitments.

The role includes maintaining storage areas, assisting with inventory, operating tow tractors and scooters, and communicating with supervisors to coordinate coverage and respond to requests.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year hospital supply operations or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills; ability to follow procedures.

Overview

Performs a wide range of logistic responsibilities across the campus area to meet the needs of the department and support patient care. Responsibilities can include all or some of the following: transports, delivers, cleans, and/or retrieves a variety of patient equipment, specimens, medical gases, linen, and receiving functions in support of patient care. Utilizes multiple department information systems to track, respond to and maintain records regarding customer requests. All tasks are performed in accordance with departmental customer service standards, and department Service Level Agreement (SLA), policies and procedures. Responds to department supervisor for employee coverage assignments. Actual work assignments are driven by needs of customers; may be assigned to any of the following tasks on a routine or periodic basis.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Delivers and retrieves a variety of equipment (including but not limited to beds, formulas, cardiac chairs, monitors, pumps), supplies, flowers, some food items, specimens, medical gases, and other items according to dispatcher or dispatch systems to patient care areas in support of the SLA to ensure the continuity of patient care.
  • 1.1 In response to shift leader direction of Service Response Center requests, completes dispatched work requests.
  • 2. Maintains designated storage areas for equipment and supplies.
  • 2.1 Ensures equipment is brought to and pulled from designated storage areas.
  • 3. Works with maintenance to ensure broken equipment is repaired.
  • 3.1 Identifies and tags unserviceable pieces of equipment through the course of normal operations.
  • 4. Transports specimens from patient divisions to clinical laboratories and operates the tube system to ensure proper movement of patient specimens or information.
  • 4.1 Through direction of SRC, or shift leader, picks up and delivers specimens to required locations (labs).
  • 5. Utilizes department information systems to retrieve monitor and perform department's basic missions.
  • 5.1 Is dispatched from, operates and otherwise monitors the Service Response Center system (SRS II, IVR, etc).
  • 6. Performs other dept. duties as requested.
  • 6.1 If necessary fills isolation stations on patient care units.
  • 7. Customer Relations/Mutual Respect – Demonstrates outstanding customer service and the Key Behaviors outlined in the Hospital's Core Success Factors in all interactions.
  • 7.1 Interacts with all others in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner.
  • 8. Receives linen from linen plant and distributes throughout the campus. Transfers dirty linen from linen to transporting trailer to ensure timely turnaround on bulk linen deliveries.
  • 9. Operates electric tow tractors and scooters always ensuring safe operation.
  • 10. Assists in the processing of contaminated Central Supply items to ensure proper decontamination.
  • 11. Accepts supplies/packages/equipment for distribution to customer departments.
  • 12. Performs duties as purchasing receiver.
  • 13. Receives all goods delivered to the hospital warehouse from the receiving platform.
  • 14. Issues warehouse supplies to using departments.
  • 15. Replenishes shelves with supplies for cart picking aisles.
  • 16. Participates in annual fiscal year inventory and assists in inventory cycle counts.
  • 17. Performs other department duties as required to meet the needs of the department.
Qualifications

A minimum of a high school graduate or GED.

Experience

One year hospital supply operations or equivalent preferred.

Special Skills

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customer departments and supervisor. Ability to read, write, understand and follow specific written and verbal instructions and procedures. Basic math skills. Basic level computer skills to operate a PC in a Windows environment, with the ability to learn and demonstrate competency in basic data entry/data retrieval in departmental information systems utilized within the unit. Operate a variety of materials handling equipment.

Physical Demand

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold or extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals.
