Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in St. Cloud, MN is hiring experienced Locum Veterinary Technicians to work in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

Shift: Friday, Saturday and Sunday (8am-8pm). You will support anesthesia, triage emergencies, radiography and critical patient care while mentoring staff and ensuring excellent client communication.

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency veterinary care and anesthesia monitoring.
• Strong ability to triage emergencies and obtain vitals.
• Proficient in radiography and venous access procedures.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases and obtain vitals (temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure).
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and patient positioning.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vitals; advise clinicians as needed.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Handle medical calculations and administer medications via appropriate routes/durations.
• Place peripheral IV catheters and perform phlebotomy.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train co-workers; address client concerns with empathy.
• Demonstrate passion for high-quality patient care in a busy ER/CC environment.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
