BluePearl Pet Hospital in St. Cloud, MN is seeking an experienced Locum Veterinary Technician to join our busy Emergency and Critical Care department.

This role offers Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8am to 8pm, with opportunities to expand skills while working alongside skilled veterinary professionals. As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will monitor anesthesia, perform triage, radiography, IV catheter placement, phlebotomy, CPR, and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia with monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergencies and obtain vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning.
• Understand normal ranges of vital signs including heart rate, RR, temp and BP.
• Obtain and interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medical math and administer medications via appropriate routes.
• Perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central lines.
• Mentor and train co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• H ave a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
