Job summary

GATX Corporation is seeking a Locomotive Technician 2 to perform scheduled and on-demand maintenance, repairs, and inspections of GATX-owned locomotives. The role requires adherence to FRA regulations, safety practices, and strong teamwork to ensure accurate customer billing and efficient operations.

You will partner with site leadership to maintain certifications and stay current on customer requirements, with opportunities to advance toward Locomotive Technician 3 as skills grow.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• TWIC or ability to obtain TWIC required.
• DOT medical physical required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and FRA/DOT regulations.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Performs scheduled and on‑demand maintenance, repair and inspection of locomotives.
• Performs mechanical and electrical repairs including air compressors and control pockets.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and engineering instructions; ensures compliance.
• Operates maintenance tools and welding equipment safely and effectively.
• Maintains certifications and safety training; adheres to FRA rules and company policies.
• Communicates technical information and work procedures clearly, in writing and verbally.
