Job summary

Norfolk Southern is seeking a Mechanical Shop Laborer Trainee to contribute to the reliability of our locomotive fleet. This seniority-based union role requires shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays, with extensive training travel and lodging provided per union agreement.

Responsibilities include fueling, cleaning, sand/wash locomotives, operating forklifts, and maintaining shop facilities. Candidates must pass medical, drug tests, and FRA requirements, and may pursue a Locomotive

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and physical standards.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Fuel locomotives and check/replenish oil levels.
• Clean locomotive cabs and facilities; sand and wash locomotives.
• Operate forklifts and other shop equipment; may need CDL for Locomotive Service truck.
• Perform tasks to ensure safe and efficient locomotive operations.
