Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Journeyman locksmith to perform journey-level locksmithing across campus and related facilities. You will install, service, inspect, and maintain locking systems and keys for various doors and equipment while adhering to security policies and standards.

Responsibilities include key origination and rekeying, using key-cutting machinery, maintaining records, and communicating effectively with staff and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Minimum 3 years of field locksmith experience with strong customer service background
• Valid Class C Texas driver's license; obtain within 30 days if not a resident
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities; basic MS Office skills
• Trade school or college with more than 3 years of locksmith experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Install, service, inspect, troubleshoot and maintain mechanical and electronic lock types on doors and equipment
• Cut keys by code and duplicate keys; manage key codes and records
• Maintain work orders in UT Works and update status to supervisor and customers
• Follow instructions; communicate clearly with staff, students, clients, and stakeholders
• Assist with obtaining materials and inventory; inspect completed work for compliance with codes and standards
• Drive University vehicles and participate in meetings; overtime as needed
