Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a journeyman locksmith to perform installation, maintenance, inspection, and servicing of locking systems and keys across campus and university-owned locations.

This 40-hour-per-week role requires experience with mechanical and electronic locks, key origination, and careful adherence to security policies. You will work on UT Main Campus and related sites, with occasional overtime and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• 3+ years of field experience as a locksmith with strong customer service background.

Responsibilities

• Install, service, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain mechanical and electronic lock types.
• Perform rekeying services including key origination and cylinder pinning.
• Cut, stamp, engrave, and file keys; maintain key code records.
• Track and update work orders in UT Works; communicate status clearly.
• Assist with material acquisition and inventory; ensure safety and compliance with codes.
• Drive university vehicles; participate in meetings; on-call rotation.
