The Locksmith repairs, maintains, installs, and troubleshoots locks, locking devices, and equipment at all District, school campuses, and work sites. Provides original keys, duplicates, and impressions and identifies keys as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Repairs, maintains, installs, and trouble-shoots locks, locking devices, and equipment.
  • Operates various power tools to include drills, drill presses, grinders, saws, key machines, buffers, and other tools of the trade; operates hand tools and keying equipment.
  • Generates original keys, duplicates, impressions, and identifies keys. Retains records of master, change, security, and equipment keys.
  • Provides keys for the file cabinets, cleaning equipment, forklifts, fire alarm systems, electrical switch keys, District vehicles, freezers, and other lock boxes.
  • Estimates cost of materials and labor in relation to job; coordinates with contractors, facility planning, and architects; assists in development of District specifications.
  • Evaluates and suggests solutions for physical security problems in the District.
  • Checks and repairs safes and vaults, and changes combinations and maintains related records.
  • Maintains supply inventory, requisitions supplies, as necessary. Maintains paperwork (electronic or hard copy) and processing of work orders.
  • Maintains assigned equipment, tools, facilities and assigned vehicles.
  • Makes emergency service calls. Assists other departments with tasks and projects as needed.
  • Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent; and two year technical certificate in a related field preferred; AND four years of experience as a locksmith; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A valid Arizona State Driver's License is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of and skill in key blank identification and duplication; assembly of locks; fitting keys to locks; reading and translating code books; safe combination changing.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools and equipment associated with locksmithing.
  • Ability to read blueprints and prepare rough drawings.
  • Skill in safely operating hand and power tools.
  • Skill in maintaining accurate records.
  • Skill in prioritizing and completing assignments with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to follow safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed throughout school campuses and District facilities.
  • Work requires exposure to potentially dangerous tools, equipment, and machinery and hazards chemicals and fumes.
  • May be required to climb ladders and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to stand, turn, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, lift, push, pull, climb ladders and scaffolds.
  • Have sufficient vision and hearing to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.
