Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane is seeking an entry‑level locksmith to support physical security operations. You will work on safes, keys, cores, and related hardware across a military installation, coordinating with customers to complete projects safely and on schedule.

The role requires a strong locksmith background, organizational skills, and field experience managing multiple projects in outdoor settings, with after-hours emergency support as needed.

Qualifications

• Must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance; Interim Secret needed to start.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to work in an outdoors environment for long periods of time.
• Must be able to work in a non‑controlled climate (no air conditioning).
• Must be able to follow all safety and environmental policies and report incidents as required.
• Strong locksmithing knowledge is desired and beneficial.

Description

Begin your locksmith career supporting vital physical security operations at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane. This entry-level position provides hands‑on experience with safes, keys, cores, and security hardware while contributing to projects across a dynamic military installation.

Perform locksmith, safe, key, core, and physical security projects from planning through completion for a military installation. This includes modifications, maintenance, repair, and installation in buildings and storage magazines located at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane.

Will be required to coordinate with customers to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and according to the approved scope of work.

The ideal candidate has a strong locksmith background, excellent organizational skills, and experience in field work and managing multiple projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Review scopes of work, schedules, and customer requirements.
• Coordinate with customers.

• Complete projects involving combination creation (pinning), key cuts, pin cores, changing combinations, installation of door locks, drilling safes, and general troubleshooting.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to work in a non-controlled climate - i.e. no air conditioning.
• Must be able to work in an outdoors environment for long periods of time.
• May be contacted after hours (on personal cell phone) for emergency response support for security issues infrequently.
• Must be motivated, professional in demeanor, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Self‑motivated with a sense of urgency in day‑to‑day performance.
• Candidate will be required to follow all safety and environmental policies and programs; must be able to use personal safety devices as required by company policy; report any activities that could be detrimental to safety and/or the loss of productivity; report any injuries when they occur.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to understand equipment data sheets, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and technical manuals.
• Capable of using basic maintenance tools.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, as required.

DESIRED:

• Strong knowledge of locksmithing.
• Experience with locks, rekeying, key systems, cores, and safes.
