Job summary

UMass Med School in Worcester is seeking a part-time Lock & Hardware Specialist to install, repair and maintain locks and related hardware across the Medical Center, including emergency egress and master keys, and to manage the computerized access key control system.

Under supervision, you will monitor access control programs, assist in installing access devices, and supervise others in installation and maintenance methods. Travel to off-site locations may be required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent or experience.
• 5 years locksmith experience.
• Knowledge of electronic access systems and door alarm systems.
• Bonded locksmith.
• Must obtain SRA approval within 6 months.
• Willingness to travel to off-site locations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor access control programs and maintenance of access systems.
• Assist in installation of access control devices (readers, maglocks, sensors).
• Establish and maintain computerized access key control system.
• Supervise and instruct others in installation and maintenance methods.
• Coordinate with other departments to minimize disruption to Medical Center operations.
• Maintain records and pertinent data.
• Install lock devices in desks, offices, doors and other units following blueprints.
• Repair and overhaul locking devices including dual locking systems.
• Defeat locking mechanisms to access restricted areas as required.
• Operate machinery to cut or duplicate keys.
• Set up new combinations for various locks including safes.
• Troubleshoot devices to determine repair methods.
• Perform other duties as required.

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Director or designee, the Lock and Hardware Specialist installs, repairs, and maintains all types of locks and hardware associated with the Medical Center locking systems, including emergency egress and master keys, and maintains the computerized access key control system. Work closely with access control vendor to insure timely and accurate input and response to access control system.

Responsibilities

• Monitor access control programs, and participate in selection, placement and maintenance of access systems at all Medical Center locations.
• Assist in installation of access control devices (readers, maglocks, sensors, etc.)
• Establish and maintain computerized access key control system.
• Functional supervision and instruction of others in installation and maintenance methods.
• Interface with other departments to assure work is completed with the least possible disruption to the Medical Center.
• Maintaining records and pertinent data.
• Installs lock devices in desks, office equipment, doors and other units according to blueprints, sketches, and manuals.
• Repairs and overhauls all locking devices including locks containing dual locking capabilities.
• Work within the Medical Center guidelines, defeat locking mechanism to gain access to locked areas and/or equipment as required.
• Operate machinery necessary to make or duplicate keys.
• Set up new combinations for all types of combination locks including large built-in safes.
• Troubleshoots devices to determine appropriate techniques to be followed in repair or replacement of all components.
• While in the performance of routine duties, may be required as needed to perform all work associated with all maintenance trades of an equal or lower graded classification, where the work or task does not require a specific license.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma, or equivalent experience
• 5 years of locksmith experience
• Knowledge of the mechanical aspects of electronic access systems and door alarm systems.
• Knowledge of methods and techniques used in the repair and installation of safes, locks, lock assemblies, and materials and tools used in the trade.
• Must obtain within 6 months SRA approval (Security Risk Assessment) as per the FBI, Criminal Justice Information Systems and Tier 1 select agent approved
• Bonded locksmith.
• Proficient with Microsoft applications
• Ability to travel to off-site locations.
