Job summary

Qualifications

• Must recognize and use locksmith-related tools.
• Minimum of three years progressive locksmith experience.
• Ability to read blueprints, diagrams and manuals.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes for locksmithing.
• Journeyman-level skill with locksmith tools and materials.
• Holds a valid Florida driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Observe safe work practices when using tools, equipment, and chemicals.
• Coordinate with other staff and support teams.
• Process work requests and maintain records of maintenance performed.
• Maintain and care for school board tools and equipment.
• Keep inventory and replacement logs up to date.
• Assist in carpentry tasks like door hanging and hinges.
• Install, adjust, change and repair locks and keys.
• Advise district personnel on security/safety measures for locks/hardware.
• Open locked doors and drawers when keys are unavailable.
• Respond to security emergency calls during and after hours.
• Maintain egress systems and related hardware for proper function.
• Track and report key replacement needs.
• Recommend materials to supervisor for repairs.
• Attend formal training sessions.
• Escalate work orders to outside contractors when needed.

Qualifications:

• At least three (3) years of progressive responsible experience as a locksmith


• Ability to plan and organize details of assignments, read and understand blueprints, diagrams and manuals


• Knowledge of the Standard Building Codes as it pertains to general locksmithing


• Journeyman level skill in the use of the tools, materials, and equipment of the locksmith trade


• Holds a valid Florida driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Completion of a technical program related to the trade at a vocational school, college, military training program, or have completed an apprenticeship program

Performance Responsibilities:

• Observes all safe work practices when using tools, equipment, and chemicals.


• Works effectively with, cooperates with, and supports other employees.


• Performs work from official work request.


• Maintains a supply of generally used materials on the school board vehicle.


• Maintains and takes proper care of school board tools and equipment.


• Keeps records as to maintenance performed from each work request.


• Recommends to supervisor materials to be used.


• Installs, adjusts, changes and repairs locks and cuts new and duplicate keys for security.


• Installs, changes and repairs electronic hardware, door closures, all hardware and locks.


• Advises district personnel on security/safety measures related to lock/hardware.


• Opens locked doors, file cabinets, drawers, and related for which there are no keys, using tools of the locksmith trade.


• Answers school security emergency calls for building and room access during hours and after hours as needed.


• Maintains building egress systems to include locks, locking devices and associated hardware, doors, panic bars, dogging devices and emergency equipment to ensure proper function of emergency exits.


• Maintains and updates inventory or district keys and key replacement log manual.


• Tracks keys that need replacement and notifies the supervisor of continuous replacement problems.


• Assists in carpentry projects including hanging doors, setting hinges and installing locks.


• Attends formal training sessions.


• Advises maintenance manager if a work order or repair should be performed by outside contractors based on scope of work, materials required, or personal experience.


• Performs other job-related functions as may be assigned.
