Job Description
Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility is searching for a Locksmith. The duties for the Locksmith include:
- Work under general supervision of the Facility Administrator to install, repair, and replace locks and locking devices at the facility.
- Install, repair and replace cylinder and key locks, door closers, and related locking hardware/devices.
- Lubricate and adjust locks and locking devices (e.g., change combinations on safes, replace tumblers and/or pad‑locks, repair electronic locking devices, install deadbolts, produce master locks and keys).
- Make new keys using various machinery for doors, cupboards, filing cabinets, medication cabinets, and/or safes.
- Perform preventative maintenance on locks and doors (e.g., inspect locks for wear and malfunction, change locking devices for security).
- Operate a personal computer to prepare and maintain work‑related records, documentation, and reports (e.g., maintain records of all door locks, keep inventory of parts, prepare requisitions).
- Make chits (identification tags) for employees, key rings, vehicles, and other devices as needed.
- Perform semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance repairs; carpentry repairs (e.g., doors, locks, cabinets, chairs, desks, floors, walls, windows, stairways).
- Repair equipment (e.g., light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, appliances, electrical components of heating and cooling systems).
- Repair plumbing equipment (e.g., water and steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulations, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks).
- Perform custodial duties (e.g., mop, sweep, wax floors, wash walls and windows).
- Perform grounds‑keeping duties; remove snow and ice from sidewalks.
- Inspect buildings and equipment for repairs or replacements and perform systematic and routine preventative maintenance of assigned area; operate machine tools and welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts and equipment.
Qualifications
- 12 months training or 12 months experience in locksmithing; and 3 months training or experience in inventory control. Or equivalent minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

Supplemental Information
All hired applicants are required to attend four weeks of mandatory training through DYS. Week one is conducted at the facility; Weeks two through four at the Correctional Training Academy in Orient, Ohio. The training is paid for by the state, including travel, lodging, and meals.
DYS is a “qualifying employer” for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
