Job summary
Ohio Department of Youth Services is seeking a Maintenance Repair Worker 3 to lead skilled repairs and supervise youth workers in semi-skilled tasks at the Highland Hills facility. The role includes carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and equipment maintenance with a regular 8 AM to 4 PM schedule and potential overtime.
Work is based at the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility in Highland Hills, OH, with a 40-hour work week and weekend requirements.
Qualifications
- Formal education in arithmetic with basic English literacy.
- 12 months training or 12 months experience in maintenance repair.
- Valid commercial driver's license if motor equipment is used.
- Minimum class qualifications as noted; licensure required where applicable.
Responsibilities
- Carpentry and/or masonry repairs (doors, cabinets, floors, walls, windows, etc).
- Plumbing work on water/steam lines, fixtures, pumps, valves and related components.
- Operate machine tools and welding equipment for metal repairs.
- Inspect buildings and equipment and perform preventive maintenance.
- Overtime opportunities; occasional snow removal; weekend hours required.

- Carpentry & or masonry repairs (e.g. door, cabinet locks, cabinets, chairs, desks, floors, walls, windows, partitions, steps etc.)
- Plumbing equipment (e.g. water & steam lines, sewer pipes, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulators, valves, toilets, sinks, heating, air conditioning, boilers, etc.)
- Operated machine tools & welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts & equipment
- On continuous basis, inspects buildings & equipment for needed repairs or replacements & performs systematic & routine preventive maintenance of assigned area.
- Hours are generally 8AM to 4PM but there may be opportunities for overtime. For example, snow removal in the winter and assisting in other areas of the facility.
- Weekend hours are required.

Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in maintenance repair (e.g., basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry & use of associated hand & power tools & equipment). Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code; in Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry only, applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S-130/S-190).
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure.
