Virginia Tech is seeking a Lock Shop Maintenance Specialist to assist the Access Department with daily operations, scheduling, and security management across Student Affairs facilities. The role involves operations coordination, badge access, and collaboration with vendors.

The successful candidate will handle door hardware installations, maintain lock inventory, perform audits, and support signage design efforts while adhering to university security policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Experience with maintaining inventory and record keeping.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive records.
• Ability to take online classes and complete required coursework independently.
• Ability to complete locksmith training and certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily operations of the Access Department, including scheduling and task assignments.
• Oversee several security databases for the department.
• Prepare Keys Out Reports daily.
• Ensure operation of all doors and door hardware across facilities.
• Install door hardware and cores across multiple buildings (~250+ changes per year).
• Maintain an inventory system of locks and lock changes.
• Assist with daily record-keeping and key control audits.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors for access cards and deactivation.
• Process requests for brass keys and electronic key box access.
• Collaborate with Sign Shop Specialist on signage for buildings.
• Maintain knowledge of key and security policies.
