Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements.

Education:

• GL-09: Master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D., if related. Graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
• GL-10: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.

Experience:

For both GL-09 and GL-10:

• One year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Examples of qualifying experience include:

GL-09:

• Experience in maintaining the armory where weapons and ammunition are stored, including rifles, carbines, stun guns, less lethal munitions, pistols, riot shotguns, gas guns, chemical agents, riot equipment, and protective gear.
• Experience in analyzing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic locks; locking systems; engineering blueprints; weapon repair, and schematics.
• Experience in maintaining tel-key systems for daily and emergency use; ensuring all institution keys are properly issued, and that documentation is accurately maintained and coincides with daily key count.

GL-10:

• Knowledge in training institution staff in all areas of security to maintain high operational and structural security.
• Reading and comprehending technical publications, drawings, blueprints, and schematics of buildings.
• Technical knowledge of prison locks and locking systems, including their application within a correctional setting.
• Analyzing and assessing the current condition of equipment for repair or replacement.
• Handling and maintaining operational expertise in emergency entry, riot control, chemical munitions, stun munitions, and special operations response team equipment.

Combination of Education and Experience:

For GL-09 only: A combination of education and experience that equips you with the qualifications to perform major duties. Credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience, with actual time spent in activities documented.
