Job summary

Job description

• Operation of electrically, electronically, and/or hydraulically controlled lock and dam gates, control valves, and other associated equipment required for passage of traffic through the lock structure and the maintenance of required pool levels.
• Participate in long term repair and maintenance planning for the project by developing and prioritizing projects needed to ensure continued effective operations of the locks and dam.
• Conduct the full range of supervisory roles including setting performance requirements, making performance appraisals, counseling and awarding employees, and resolving concerns through discussion with employees and union representatives.
• Conduct safety meetings, develop hazard analysis for each job, instruct employees in safety methods and practices, enforce safety regulations, and investigate accidents and prepare accident reports.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• One-year probationary period may be required.
• One-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
• This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program, required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
• This position has been designated \"Mission Essential\". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• Incumbent may be required to have an American Red Cross Standard First Aid card, CPR, and/or AED in good standing and/or wear a prescribed uniform based on site specific requirements.
• Incumbent may be required to have a valid state driver's license based on job-related, site-specific requirements.
• Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures.
• Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment are provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
• Wear a prescribed uniform based on site specific requirements.
• Incumbent may be required to acquire and maintain appropriate Corps of Engineers equipment operating licenses based on site specific requirements.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic Supervisor without more than normal supervision. At a minimum, your level of experience must show that you perform operating, inspecting, dissembling, and troubleshooting lock and dam equipment and machinery; repairing lock valves and gates, perform welding operations, troubleshoot and repair electric, gasoline, and diesel motors of mobile-railed service bridge cranes, truck cranes, pumps, generators, compressors, and tractors. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
