Job summary

GCC is seeking a ready-mix concrete truck driver in Ida Grove, Iowa. You will drive a concrete mixer truck to job sites, perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, and ensure safe operation under DOT regulations.

Responsibilities include loading materials, connecting chutes, maintaining cleanliness, and communicating with dispatch to meet customer specs. You will work full shifts, handling loads, following routes, and complying with safety requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (minimum); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Fill water tank before each delivery and ensure valves are shut.
• Use map book and route planning to reach job site on time.
• Drive safely to jobsite and achieve desired slump per specs.
• Maneuver truck on unstable ground conditions and observe customer equipment.
• Add fibers, chemical admixtures, cement, or colors as required at plant or site.
• Place chutes from fender or rack onto main chute for discharge; clean after.
• Wash chutes and store properly after discharge.
• Wash truck with hose/brush and use acid when necessary after shifts.
• Communicate with dispatch via two-way radio and status signaling system.
• Call out start time daily as required by supervisor.
• Perform post-trip inspection per DOT regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

What you will do:

Drives truck equipped with a concrete mixer to deliver concrete mix to job sites.

• Pre-trip inspection of ready-mix truck pursuant to D.O.T. regulations. Pre-trip inspectionincludes checking fluid levels of engine oil, antifreeze, tire pressure, brakes, and other driver-operated controls for loading and unloading ready-mix.
• Fills water tank before each delivery by placing rubber hose into the water tank and filling after checking that all valves are shut.
• Uses map book and experience and takes most direct route to job site to ensure on-timedelivery.
• Safely drives truck to jobsite and arrives with the desired slump within customer or jobspecifications.
• Upon arriving on jobsite, the driver must be able to safely maneuver truck in often veryunstable ground conditions. Safe observations of customers’ equipment and conditions.
• Driver will add necessary ingredients such as fibers, chemical admixtures, cement, orintegral colors at plant or job site, as well as other products.
• Pursuant to customer needs, driver will place chutes from fender or hanging rack onto themain chute at the rear of truck for discharge. Upon completion of discharge, driver willwash the chutes and put back in the appropriate location on truck.
• Upon completion of each shift, driver will wash truck with a hose and brush, including the useof acidic solution when necessary.
• Communicate with dispatch through the use of two-way radio and the use of a truckstatus signaling system.
• Ready-mix driver is responsible to call callout each day for start time.
• Each driver is expected to perform a post-trip inspection of the truck pursuant to DOTregulations.
• Performs other duties assigned by supervisor/management.

Experience and abilities you will need:

High school diploma (minimum); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Ability to pass Federal Department of Transportation drug screen and physical.
• Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations.
• Ability to handle cash and make change.
• Ability to deal with customers and other employees in a diplomatic manner.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
• Maintain Department of Transportation Health cond.
• Average Work Hours: 10 hours/day, 4 - 6 days/week
• Lifting 50lbs. frequently
• Extremes temperatures (C or H)
