Job summary

NEOGOV is seeking a seasoned government executive to serve as a trusted peer advisor to city, county and state leaders. You will partner with account teams to steer strategic conversations, translate agency needs into modernization plans, and open doors for engagement with executive decision-makers.

This remote role requires strong governance, budgeting, procurement and labor environment knowledge, plus a broad regional network and travel 25–35%.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of senior leadership experience in government (city/county/state).
  • Proven ability to influence decision-making at senior levels.
  • Strong peer network across municipal and state leaders.
  • Experience presenting to executive bodies and understanding governance, budgeting, procurement.

Role Summary

A seasoned former City/County/State executive (e.g., County Administrator/Chairperson, Mayor, HR Director/Chief HR Officer) who serves as a peer executive voice to governmental leaders. You will partner with our account teams to lead customer facing strategic conversations, engage decision makers, and translate operational needs into practical modernization plans—helping agencies evaluate our solutions with confidence, clarity and professional insight. We’ll also look to your experience, expertise and relationships to open doors for engagement and conversation.

  • Act as Trusted Peer Advisor: Build confidence in NEOGOV’s solutions to peers (HR leadership, City/County Managers, Labor Relations, and Finance) and influence solution positioning with firsthand credibility.

  • Serve as a Brand Ambassador: Represent NEOGOV at industry events, build thought leadership, and represent NEOGOV as a trusted partner, while bringing customer feedback back into our sales, marketing, and product strategies.

  • Engage decision makers: Use your ability to network and build relationships through your network to secure executive-level conversations and set meetings with key staff.

  • Join key conversations: Partner with AEs/AMs in the sales from the first meeting onward; clarify objectives, constraints, and success measures; align stakeholders on realistic paths forward.

  • Advise on fit and readiness: Connect agency realities to how our systems are implemented and sustained.

  • Support formal evaluations: Provide concise input for briefings, RFP responses, and workshops; offer reference-style validation.

  • Capture and share insights: Write short debriefs and talking points that help teams replicate what works.

  • A recognized and respected leader (e.g., County Administrator/Chairperson, Mayor, HR Director/Chief HR Officer) with credibility among municipal and county stakeholders with credibility among municipal, county and/or state leaders.

  • Motivated to help agencies adopt technology that improves workforce and community engagement, positive interactions and transparency.

  • Innovative thinker with strong emotional intelligence, able to approach challenges with sound judgment and adaptability.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to build trust quickly and build consensus across HR, legal, IT, finance, and operations.

  • Experience presenting to executive bodies (mayor/city manager/council), and familiarity with governance, budgeting, procurement, civil-service rules, and labor environments

What you Have

  • Strong peer network.

  • Proven ability to influence decision-making at senior levels.

  • Willingness to travel regionally (25–35%).
