Job summary

New Jersey League of Conservation Voters is seeking an energetic advocate to support its political program and PAC operations. The role focuses on advancing environmental policies, building partnerships with officials and communities, and coordinating outreach and education for local leaders and endorses.

Responsibilities

  • Manage New Jersey LCV’s Political Action Committee work and support a broader political program.
  • Ensure PAC compliance with NJ rules and election laws; manage quarterly and annual PAC reporting.
  • Develop and implement resources for local officials; create networking/engagement programs for partners and endorses.
  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders through a communications program including events and CRM.
  • Develop and execute coordinated electoral campaign plans; identify endorsement targets and manage data collection, analysis, and research.
  • Represent New Jersey LCV with partners and elected officials to influence environmental policies.
  • Collaborate across teams to support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Support accountability efforts for elected officials via various tactics and help publish scorecards.
  • Grow engagement with local environmental champions and mentor activists to become decision-makers.
  • Work with leadership on strategies to achieve policy goals and power-building initiatives.
  • Support development of the NJ bipartisan environmental caucus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

New Jersey League of Conservation Voters is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that protects our precious natural resources by raising awareness of key environmental challenges; increasing the efficacy of the environmental community; helping elect environmentally responsible candidates to state and local offices; advocating for strong environmental policies; and ensuring accountability to safeguard the health of our communities, the beauty of our state, and the strength of our economy.

This positionsupports our local and state-level strategies to build leadership, influence and action through elections, endorsements, and environmental policy support, including working with our Political Action Committee (PAC) and providing environmental policy guidance. Responsibilities:
  • Manage New Jersey LCV’s Political Action Committee (“coordinated”) election work and support a broader political program.
  • Support New Jersey LCV’s PAC, ensuring compliance with NJ rules and election laws; manage quarterly and annual PAC reporting to the NJELEC Commission.
  • With guidance, develop and implement resources for local officials, including creating a networking and engagement program for partners and endorsees.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders including elected officials and partners through a communications program that includes webinars, virtual and in person events, policy programming, and regular communications via a CRM.
  • With support, develop and execute coordinated electoral campaign plans. Assist with the identification of campaign endorsement targets; own data collection, analysis and research for district, voter, and candidate information; develop local and State candidate relationships, and lead the selection process that helps elect strong, values-based environmental champions.
  • Represent New Jersey LCV by engaging with various partners, elected officials and their staff, coalitions and local leadership, building and leveraging influence to help enact environmentally strong policies and laws at local and statewide levels.
  • Work across teams to ensure our work supports broader organizational goals related to diversity, equity and inclusion, and apply a racial justice lens to all efforts undertaken.
  • Support organizational efforts to hold elected officials accountable via a variety of tactics (digital, mail, etc.) and, with team support, lead the scorecard process and publication.
  • Grow and expand engagement with potential local environmental champions, helping transition them from engaged activists to decision-makers shaping their communities.
  • Work closely with New Jersey LCV leadership on short-term plans that support an effective political strategy to achieve policy goals and broader power-building initiatives.
  • Support development and implementation of the NJ bipartisan legislative caucus for the environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualfications:
  • Deep commitment to bold climate and justice policies, issues, and activist efforts; some understanding of environmental and democracy issues, and a baseline knowledge of New Jersey’s political landscape is a plus.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure, manage priorities in a fast-paced environment, be detail-oriented, take initiative, stay organized, follow through, and work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with project management; some experience in curriculum/program design a plus.
  • Strong partnership-building skills and experience in effective relationship development and constituent relations management a plus.
  • Possesses strong organizational, communication and writing skills; takes initiative and looks for new opportunities and ways to leverage existing ones.
Salary:

$42,500 - $55,000 range, depending upon experience and candidate qualifications, and a robust, comprehensive benefits package offered. Ranges are based on an external and organizational wage analysis, noting that new staff rarely start at the top of a range.

This position is supported by grant funding, with the strong likelihood of continuation, dependent upon additional funding and the possibility of advancement. We are not offering employer-sponsored work Visa opportunities.
