Job summary

Fessenden Hall Inc. is seeking a CDL Truck Driver to securely transport and deliver specialty building materials across Northern New Jersey and New York. You will engage with customers, perform loading and unloading, and maintain vehicle safety standards.

This hands-on role requires stamina and attention to detail in a dynamic distribution environment. The position offers an hourly wage of $28.00–$30.00, with comprehensive benefits covered by the employer, aligning with our family-owned culture

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience preferred.
• Experience with route planning, GPS navigation, and map reading.
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

• High level of composure and ability to handle stressful situations calmly.

Position Overview

This is an active, hands-on driving position that requires physical stamina and engagement throughout your workday. You won't just be sitting behind the wheel-you'll be actively securing, transporting, and delivering specialty building materials to customers across Northern New Jersey & New York. This role combines professional driving skills with customer service and physical labor.

What You'll Do

• Secure materials: Physically handle and carefully secure building materials (laminates, plywood, solid surfaces) onto the truck, ensuring safe transport


• Safe transportation: Drive commercial vehicles to deliver materials from our warehouse to customer locations across Northern New Jersey & New York


• Customer delivery & unloading: Work directly with customers at delivery sites, assisting with unloading and ensuring materials arrive in perfect condition


• Vehicle inspections & maintenance: Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections, verify cargo is properly secured, and maintain accurate logs of vehicle repair status and working hours


• Safety & compliance: Follow all safety procedures for cargo transport, adhere to traffic laws, and maintain compliance with DOT regulations


• Route management: Plan daily routes efficiently using GPS navigation and mapping tools; adapt to traffic and delivery conditions in real time

What We're Looking For

• High School Diploma or equivalent


• Valid CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with clean driving record and clean MVR; must pass DOT physical and drug screening


• Skilled at driving, backing, and parking large commercial vehicles in tight and congested spaces

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience preferred


• Experience with route planning, GPS navigation, and map reading


• Reliable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn


• Strong communication and customer service skills


• Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team


• High level of composure and ability to handle stressful situations calmly

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 70 lbs. and remain physically active throughout extended shifts


• Physical stamina for loading, securing, and unloading materials multiple times per day


• Able to work in varying weather conditions while remaining alert and focused


• Mental focus and endurance during long driving shifts combined with manual labor

Compensation & Benefits

We invest in our people. Your benefits package delivers real dollar value beyond base compensation. See the hourly pay range above.

• Fessenden Hall covers 80% of your premium. An employer-funded HRA reimburses your full deductible each year, up to $4,000 individual or $8,000 family. Your effective deductible is $0. Out-of-pocket max is $6,550; above that, insurance pays 100%.


• Fully employer-paid coverage. Dental, vision, life, AD&D (1x salary to $50,000), short-term disability, and long-term disability (60% income replacement to age 65). Premiums are covered at 100%.


• 401(k) with auto-enrollment, discretionary company contributions, and full vesting after three years of service.
