Local CDL-A Freight Driver — Tractor-Trailer

Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a CDL-class A driver to pick up and deliver freight between service centers and customers. You will support the selling process and ensure safe, compliant operation of tractors and trailers.

Responsibilities include performing pre-trip inspections, securing freight, handling documentation, and maintaining customer relationships. Must meet DOT requirements and have hazmat endorsements; LCV qualifications may apply in certain states.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A CDL with double/triple, hazmat and tank endorsements (Automatic transmission restriction allowed).
• One year of experience within the last three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must have an acceptable MVR per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT regulatory requirements under 49 CFR Part 391.
• LCV qualifications apply in listed states (AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, UT).
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 100 pounds several times a week.
• Ability to sit for extended periods and maneuver in/out of vehicle.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles/triples (as applicable) and straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies.
• Handle freight using motorized and manual equipment (forklift, pallet jack, hand truck).
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight as needed.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Comply with hazardous materials regulations and procedures.
• Collect charges and maintain documentation for freight.
• Follow dispatch instructions and communicate delays, arrivals, and equipment issues.
• Interact with customers to determine pickup/delivery needs and solicit additional business.
• Provide internal and external customer service; refer leads to sales.
