Employment Status: Non-Exempt, UFCW Admin; Full-Time (35 Hours/Week)

Schedule : Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Certifications/Licenses Required: Massachusetts Construction Supervisors License for at least five (5) years, Two (2) year Associates Degree in a field related to building construction or design for local Inspector or: Four (4) year degree in a field related to building construction or design for inspector of buildings/building commissioner.

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopee’s Building Department is hiring a Local Building Inspector who enforces the provisions of the Massachusetts State Building Code (780 CMR), the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (521 CMR), as well as the City of Chicopee Ordinances for the safety and protection of the general public.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE:

• The local inspector shall enforce all the provisions of 780 CMR, 521 CMR and any other state statutes, rules, regulations, ordinance or bylaws which empower the building official.
• Act on any question related to construction modes, materials, and compliance, including permits, inspections, and enforcement of 780 CMR.
• Receive applications, issue permits, inspect premises, and ensure compliance with relevant codes.
• Issue notices or orders to ensure compliance with 780 CMR.
• Make necessary inspections to verify compliance.
• Inspect and investigate zoning issues as assigned by the building commissioner.

• Knowledge of building construction, fire prevention, safety standards, and accessible design requirements is required.
