Position Description:

Our Heavy Equipment Operators operate track loaders for the installation of water, sewer, and stormwater underground pipes. Operators are needed on all types of projects, such as highways and bridges, residential, and industrial construction. This position requires knowledge of how to backfill excavations and work around underground utilities. Operators may also be required to operate other equipment, including but not limited to excavators, skid steers, and compactors. Operators typically operate equipment for up to 10-12 hours per day and 5-6 days per week. Employees are expected to follow all safety procedures and perform light maintenance such as cleaning/greasing equipment, checking fluids, and fueling equipment. Some manual labor is required such as shoveling.

McAninch Corporation utilizes CAT equipment. Applicants should be proficient with CAT controls and have experience running CAT 963 or 973 Track Loaders.

Job Requirements:

• Operate heavy equipment safely and as directed by foremen.
• Ability to sit for long periods of time, typically up to 10 hours per day.
• Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, kneel, crawl and squat as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull up to 75 lbs independently.
• Availability to work 10-12 hours per day. A typical week is approximately 50-60 hours. Some weekends required based on production deadlines and weather delays.
• Ability to work outside 100% of the time, including in hot, cold and wet conditions. Employees are expected to dress appropriately.

Qualifications:

• 3 or more years experience operating heavy equipment, specifically track loaders, in a construction environment.
• Knowledge of how to backfill excavations and work around underground utilities required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Reliable transportation to report directly to the job site each morning. Locations are typically within 1 hour of the Des Moines Metro Area.
• Availability to travel on an intermittent basis, typically up to 3 weeks at a time.
• Experience in construction or education in industrial technology or a trade school preferred.
• Experience using basic hand tools (hammer, sledgehammer, shovel) or specialty tools (quickie-saw, pipe cutter, etc.) preferred.

Compensation:

Our operators earn up to $36.90 per hour, depending on experience. McAninch pays 100% of all benefits, including health insurance premiums and pension dues, as provided by Local 234 Operators Union. Overtime is paid after 40 hours per week and employees are paid weekly on every Friday.

McAninch Corporation is a seasonal construction contractor. Our active season typically lasts from mid-April through mid-December. Applicants should be aware that year-round work is not guaranteed.
