Job summary

CITGO Lemont Refinery is seeking an Environmental intern for a paid 12-week summer program on-site in Lemont, Illinois. You will work with refinery teams and HSE professionals to learn environmental management practices and support strategies to reduce risk and ensure safe operations.

Responsibilities include assisting with permit programs, environmental training, and data analysis to drive improvements. The internship includes a final presentation covering experiences and accomplishments.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering.
• Must be at least a sophomore with GPA 3.0+.
• Available to work 40 hours per week.
• Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist with daily environmental aspects of the business units.
• Assist with the Business Units air permit management program.
• Assist with the SWPPP and NPDES permit programs.
• Assist with hazardous waste management programs.
• Participate in HSE meetings.
• Interact with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering to resolve environmental issues.
• Develop and deliver environmental management training.
• Research environmental regulations and technologies.
• Participate in incident investigations and lessons learned.
• Provide technical support to environmental teams.
• Identify leading indicator metrics for tracking and improvement.
• Support training, meetings, and presentations across the organization.

Job Summary

The CITGO Lemont Refinery is searching for a Environmental intern who will be become familiar with the refinery organization and work processes while learning refinery safe work practices. The Environmental Internmay be assigned to assist in implementing environmental management strategies to reduce risk to diminish or remove hazards. The Environmental Intern actively works with Business Units and HSE Professionals in their designated operating areas to implement, update, and improve the environmental management system and works to ensure CITGO remains a positive steward of the environment.This position is a paid 12-week summer internship. A presentation covering all aspects of the internship experience and accomplishments will be expected at the end of the term.This position is located on-site at the CITGO Refinery in Lemont, Illinois.

Expected Hourly Range:$22.13 - $36.19

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering Bachelor’s Degree program
• Must be at least a sophomore status in college (completion of freshman year) with an overall GPA of 3.0 or above
• Available to work forty hours (40) per week
• Must have valid driver’s license
• Candidate must possess strong analytical and communication skills and be able to work in a team environment

Job Duties

• Assist with daily environmental aspects of the business units
• Assist with the Business Units air permit management program
• Assist with the implementation of the SWPPP, and NPDES water permit programs
• Assist with the implementation of the Business Units hazardous waste management programs
• Participate in HSE meetings
• Interact regularly and frequently with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering at assigned areas to build rapport and to be aware of and assist with resolving environmental issues
• Develop and deliver environmental management training
• Research existing and new environmental regulations and technologies
• Participate in incident investigations, review cause maps, and ensure post-incident lessons learned and incident prevention strategies are implemented
• Provide technical support to the facility’s environmental teams
• Identify and establish leading indicator metrics that are tracked, trended, and used in a way to identify areas of concern, improvement programs, address risk/ hazards and ultimately eliminate environmental incidents
• Perform training, lead team meetings, compose, and deliver presentations to various groups at all levels of the organization.
