Job summary

The Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is seeking a Livestock Brand Inspector for Brand District 3 near Madras, OR. This temporary, part-time role primarily works at the auction yard (Mondays and Sundays) with occasional country inspections to support brand inspection and recording services.

The successful candidate will issue brand certificates, collect fees, and assist in estray investigations while collaborating with state and federal partners to safeguard agricultural interests.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the livestock industry showing knowledge of branding, ranch management, or marketing.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• Ability to regularly lift objects 50–60 lbs.
• Work availability on Mondays and Sundays.
• Residence within 20 miles of Madras, OR.

Responsibilities

• Inspect livestock brands and ownership documents for livestock purchased, sold, slaughtered, or transported interstate.
• Issue brand inspection certificates and collect fees.
• Participate in investigations of estray livestock.
• Conduct commodity inspections, surveys for exotic insects or pathogens, and sample collection.
• Perform other Agriculture Services Division or agency activities as needed.
