Job summary

Berklee College of Music is seeking a Live Sound and Recording Engineer for the Berklee Presents production team. This role involves mounting a live student concert, supporting live sound for rehearsals, and handling audio engineering tasks in the Berklee Presents studio to create stems for playback tracks.

Reporting to the Senior Concert Producer, you will collaborate with faculty and student crews, work with diverse instrumentation, and may perform remote audio engineering via Zoom.

Qualifications

• Extremely well-organized and detail oriented.
• Reliable, punctual, and diligent.

• High-level live sound experience.
• High-level audio engineering skills; MP&E major preferred.
• Proficiency with ProTools, Logic Pro X, and GarageBand.
• Familiar with Google Drive, MS Office, and Dropbox.

• Team player focused on student and project success.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Setup and breakdown of rehearsal room equipment for a large ensemble (stands, keys, mics, amps, monitors).
• Support playback engineers with playback equipment and in-ear monitor stations for the band.
• Management and troubleshooting of live sound for a large ensemble with varied instrumentation.
• Microphone setup and placement to record rehearsals and upload files to shared cast folders.
• Collaborate with Berklee Presents team to follow the studio booking calendar and session log.
• Engineer recording sessions in the Berklee Presents studio, meeting sonic quality standards.
• Collaborate with Berklee Presents team, taking direction during recording sessions and supporting student talent.
• Maintain recording studio policies for care of equipment and inventory oversight.
• Operate remote audio recording sessions via Zoom and AudioMovers LISTENTO.
• In consultation with faculty Track Supervisor and Producer, compile audio stems for mockups and playback tracks.
• Undertake audio editing, processing, and mixing to support playback tracks.
• Enhance sound quality and add effects to recordings as needed.
• Work with video editors to synchronize video with audio tracks.
• Support Berklee Presents team’s mission to foster a safe and inspiring environment for students and promote DEI.
• Assist with general administrative tasks for Berklee Presents as needed.
• May work occasional prolonged or irregular hours, especially before performances.
