Job summary

Montclair State University is seeking an Assignment Coordinator for NJ PBS to act as the real-time nerve center of the newsroom, coordinating crew and equipment, monitoring social media for breaking news, and maintaining journalist scheduling.

Reporting to the News Director, you will book interviews, manage live logistics, and communicate with field crews. A Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of assignment desk experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
• Minimum three years of assignment desk experience in broadcast or digital daily newsroom operations.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent field assignments in a live news environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor social media and wire services for breaking news and developing stories.
• Assign reporters to stories based on availability and priorities.
• Manage crew scheduling and equipment deployment for adequate coverage.
• Maintain the assignment log and daily story list; update as stories develop.
