Job summary

Montclair State University’s NJ PBS is seeking a Newsroom Assignment Coordinator to steer real-time workflow, assign reporters, monitor breaking news, and manage crew and equipment. Reporting to the News Director, you will build and maintain editorial contacts, coordinate live shot logistics, and support editors with up-to-date story status.

A bachelor’s degree and 3+ years’ daily newsroom experience are required; master’s degree and NJ geography knowledge are preferred.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
At least three years of demonstrated assignment desk experience in broadcast or digital daily newsroom operations.
Knowledge of New Jersey geography, government, and public safety agencies (preferred).
Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred).

Responsibilities

Monitor social media and wire services for breaking news and developing stories.
Assign reporters and photojournalists to stories based on availability and priorities.
Manage crew scheduling and equipment deployment for adequate coverage.
Maintain the assignment log and daily story list and update as stories develop.
Coordinate live shot logistics including satellite truck positioning and IP-based connections.
Support producers with rundown planning and real-time story status updates.
Develop and maintain news contacts and sources for editorial coverage.
