Job summary

Nexstar Media in Topeka, Kansas seeks a Technical Director to lead the technical execution of live and taped newscasts, ensuring precise, high-energy presentation and strict production standards. You will work with producers, meteorologists, anchors and crew, troubleshoot on-air issues, monitor cameras, graphics, audio and switchers to deliver seamless broadcasts.

The role requires quick decision-making in a fast-paced newsroom, flexibility across shifts, and clear documentation to maintain FCC

Qualifications

Fluency in English is required.
Ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced live news environment.
Strong verbal and written communication within the team.
Willingness to work varied shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

Direct live and recorded newscasts and special programs using automated production control systems.
Coordinate with producers to execute editorial and creative vision for clean, high-energy broadcasts.
Monitor cameras, graphics, audio, video servers, and switcher functions.
Troubleshoot technical issues during live broadcasts.
Collaborate with meteorologists, anchors, reporters and staff to ensure smooth execution of broadcasts.
Maintain broadcast quality standards and FCC compliance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
