Job summary

Job description

The Technical Director is responsible for the technical execution and visual presentation of newscasts and special productions. This role collaborates with producers, operations staff, and newsroom personnel to ensure accurate, engaging, and seamless broadcasts while maintaining high production standards.

Job Duties
  • Direct live and recorded newscasts and special programs using automated production control systems.
  • Coordinate closely with producers to execute editorial and creative vision to deliver clean, high-energy newscasts.
  • Monitor automated production elements including cameras, graphics, audio, video servers, and switcher functions.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during live broadcasts.
  • Collaborate with meteorologists, anchors, reporters, and technical staff to ensure smooth execution of broadcasts.
  • Maintain broadcast quality standards and compliance with FCC regulations and company policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Skills
  • Fluency in English.
  • Ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced live news environment and remain focused under significant deadline pressure.
  • Ability to communicate and document effectively and concisely to the rest of the team.
  • Flexibility to work any shift across our schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and breaking news situations.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment.
  • Understanding of video production, switchers, graphics systems, audio boards, and newsroom computer systems is a plus.
