Job summary

Union College (NY) is seeking a Community Director to manage one or two residence halls, oversee a team of up to 12 student staff, and foster an engaging living-learning community for about 350 residents. The role requires a strong commitment to inclusivity, student development, and crisis support within a live-in, twelve-month apartment setting.

The position includes an on-campus furnished apartment, regular evening/weekend duties, and collaboration with campus Life and Facilities teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Higher Education preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
• Ability to exercise exceptional judgment and maintain confidentiality.
• Commitment to an inclusive learning community and student development.

Responsibilities

• Oversee 1–2 residence halls or a cluster of houses for ~350 residents.
• Supervise 12 student staff members (HRA, RAs, HMs) and develop their leadership.
• Support student development, crisis management, and conduct administration.
• Collaborate with facilities and college committees on residence life operations.
• Maintain safety, on-call rotations, and adherence to campus policies.
